Being successful gives you more and more points under the system used in WE 2007. The idea is to play league matches, qualify for tournaments, win championships, etc. This has always been the bread and butter of the series, and thankfully, not a whole lot was taken away from it. The venerable Master League lives on and continues its tradition of putting you in the managerial seat to build a winner from scratch.
It's a pretty even now.ĭespite the various drawbacks I've already mentioned, all is not lost with WE 2007. There was a time when fans of EA's FIFA would lament the lack of national sides at their disposal. French Ligue 1 makes its debut here with all hands on deck, which is nice, but replacing one league with another doesn't really help the recurring issue of choice in WE 2007.Įven the list of national teams has dwindled significantly from what it used to be. League coverage, generally speaking, is quite limited. Bayern Munich makes an embarrassing appearance in WE 2007 insofar as that they're the only German League team to make the cut. Just about everything that made editing so refreshingly easy, albeit time-consuming, has been scrapped.īut at least there is a "league" to play in with those teams.
In previous series iterations, this was easily remedied with a simple name change through the excellent editing tools available to you. Just looking at the scoreboard and seeing the name can make you cringe. Merseyside may be a county that swallows up Liverpool, but to have the team named "Merseyside Red" really hurts the intensity of a big tilt between English Premier League powerhouses. The problem is compounded by attempts to make up for the limitations. And so it is, another year where Konami is left out in the cold with a lack of licensing.Īnd this goes on with missing stadiums, altered lineups and formations and even a lack of star power mugs (is that really Thierry Henry?). It's one thing to have tons of players and even a pretty decent lineup of teams, but when you're missing the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, the English Premier League really doesn't resonate the same way. The biggest hurdles continue to dog this series and it's a shame when you consider just how good it really is at its core. But changing the name of a game does not necessarily change the quality of a game and this iteration is no exception. Taking away the obvious name change from years past, Konami decided to finally stick to one moniker for this franchise and keep it for all the markets.
